Whether you’re off to the Highlands, Yorkshire, or Portugal, each retreat has its own charm. In the Highlands, you’ll be wrapped in wool beside a crackling fire; in Yorkshire, wandering through charming villages and lush countryside with a cuppa in hand; and in Portugal, basking in the sun by a pool with a gentle breeze on your shoulders.
A little thoughtful packing helps you slip straight into the experience—whatever the weather or location throws at you.
1. Your Books: Old Loves and New Temptations
Bring a small, well-considered stack: a comfort read you know will hit the spot, something shiny and new, and that one book you’ve been meaning to start. Retreats give you the headspace to finally open it without guilt.
2. A Journal or Notebook
Reading sparks all sorts of thoughts—lines to remember, reflections, and sudden ideas. A notebook keeps them safe before they vanish into the ether.
3. Weather-Ready Layers
Highlands: woolly jumpers, fleece, thick socks, a scarf that feels like a hug.
Yorkshire: cosy layers for unpredictable countryside weather—think smart yet snuggly.
Portugal: floaty, breathable fabrics, a light jumper for cooler evenings, and comfy clothes for lounging or wandering.
4. Swimwear
Portugal practically demands it. In the UK, some retreats offer hot tubs or saunas—definitely worth packing.
5. Kindle/E-book reader
Yes, there’s nothing quite like the feel of a real book—but a Kindle or e-reader is a game-changer on retreat. Totally optional and up to personal preference, but one device, countless stories, adjustable lighting for fireside evenings or sunny patios, and the ability to carry your whole personal library wherever you wander. Plus, it’s wonderfully guilt-free—you can dip into multiple reads without having to choose just one.
6. Personal Treats and Little Luxuries
Think of the little things that make you feel wonderfully spoiled—things you’d rarely justify at home but suddenly feel essential on retreat. A soft blanket scarf to curl up with your book, your favourite hand cream, a luxe lip balm, or a beautiful bookmark that makes turning pages feel like a treat. Maybe even a tiny candle or a calming eye mask if you fancy a moment of pure indulgence. These are the small, personal touches that turn a lovely stay into a memory you’ll carry home.
7. Quiet-Time Essentials
Headphones, earplugs, or a downloaded playlist—anything that helps you slip fully into your reading bubble. Don't forget the adaptor if you are from a different country to charge your headphones/phone/camera etc.
8. Comfortable Shoes
Highlands: sturdy boots for crisp walks.
Yorkshire: comfy shoes for wandering through villages and green paths.
Portugal: light, easy shoes for gentle strolls between chapters.
9. A Little Everyday Luxury
Treat yourself—soft scarf, moisturiser, silk eye mask, or that book light you keep meaning to use. Little touches make all the difference.
10. Space in Your Bag
You’ll likely come home with extra: a new read from the retreat, a recommendation you can’t resist, or simply the warm glow of a lighter, happier mind. And, of course—you’ll also leave with one of our lovely goody bags, packed with little treats to keep the magic going.
